LANGKAWI Sept 4 - The Royal Malaysian Navy Special Force (PASKAL) made a clean sweep of the top three Fullbore Sniper places in the the FullBore Challenge 2004 at the Langkawi International Shooting Range here Saturday.
PASKAL A represented by Mohd Alias Zakaria, Gilbert Kereng, Norselazizie Mohd Noor and Ariffadilah Omar shot down 586.65V points to take the title while PASKAL C and B finished second and third respectively.
In the Fullbore Sniper individual event, Zainol Abidin Md Zain, winner of a silver medal in the KL 1998 Commonwealth Games, remained in the lead after the first round held Friday.
Zainol representing the National Rifle Association of Malaysia (PRKM) will be in action Sunday in the 300, 500, 600, 900 and 1,000 yard events.
Meanwhile, Mohd Alias who produced a splendid performance in the Fullbore Sniper team event was again in sizzling form during the first round of the Aug Styer event to lead the field with 148.12V points.
In the first round of the M 16 event, Misron Jailani from RELA shot to the fore with 131.8V points. A total of 200 shooters from 12 teams are participating in the challenge which is being used as a platform by the PRKM to select shooters for the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Results:
Fullbore Sniper Team (final): 1. PASKAL A 586.65V, 2. PASKAL C 583.59V, 3. PASKAL B 582.63V.
Aug Styer first round: 1. Mohd Alias Zakaria (PASKAL) 148.12V, 2. Abu Bakar Wagio (Vat 69 Polis) 139.8V, 3. Zulkifli Ismail (TLDM) 132.6V.
M 16 first round: 1. Misron Jailani (Rela) 131.8V, 2. Mohd Rahim Malik (Rela) 129.7V, 3. Abdul Rahman Fadzir Alias (Vat 69 Polis) 128.7V.
